The official language of the Nutrition Winterschool is English. No interpretation will be arranged.
A valid passport, or official identification card with photo for participants from Nordic and EU countries, is required when travelling to Finland. A visa is required when travelling from certain countries. More information on visa applications from your local authorities and from the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is available here (www.formin.fi).
Pyhätunturi Hotel is reached with daily direct flights or by train to Rovaniemi. From Rovaniemi airport and railway station there is special "Skibus" (Costs approx. 40 € for a return ticket) to Pyhätunturi Hotel. Taxis or minibuses from the airport or train station are approximately 160 €.
The official currency in Finland is the euro (EUR). Well known credit cards (Visa, Master Card etc.) are accepted in most places in Pyhä area. Money can be exchanged and traveller's cheques cashed in banks (opening hours Mon-Fri 9.30-16.00). The nearest bank to Pyhä is located in the town of Pelkosenniemi about 25 km from Pyhä. Money can be also drawn from ATMs around the clock (closest ATM at Pelkosenniemi) with credit cards.
A service charge and VAT are included in all restaurant prices and taxi fares.
The electricity supply in Finland is 230V, 50 Hz. A schuko plug system that accepts europlug is used.
On 1st February sun rises at 08:17 and sets 14:33 but on 6th the day is 40 minutes longer.
In February, the weather in the Pyhä area is cold, with minus degrees (30-year average -13°C, 7°F), +75 cm snow and frost, with slightly over 6 hours of daylight per day.
The time in Finland is 1 hour ahead of Central European Time (CET+1) and 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2).
